3 Effects On Teens Of Internet Addiction
50% of teens admitted that they feel addicted to their mobile devices(Joyce). Teens can use the internet as communication with people or learning new information. The Internet is very useful for our life and there is only a tiny line between addiction and daily life using the internet. Internet addiction affects teens in 3 main ways: decrease in their grades, loss of the human touch, and loss of sleep.
The first effect is the decrease in grades. We have found that the test results of students who used social media while studying, even if they say it was on in the background, were 20% lower than students who did not use (Signs and Symptoms of Internet or Computer Addiction ) . If we have our phones next to us while studying and if a message arrives, we can not really focus on our work. So it can cause a decrease in grades. The teens who paid attention to the internet while studying or doing homework said they didn’t think their multitasking harmed the quality of their work(Joyce). So according to these observations. We can see that having a mobile device or paying attention to the internet while studying can lower the grades.
The second effect is the loss of the human touch. As using phones became more popular in the world, face to face conversation among the people got replaced by texting on the phone or sending emails. Your connection with life decreases or your ties with friends and parents get weak. Or if an internet addicted teen has problems with his or her life and does not share these problems with someone else because of the loss of interaction between people. Internet addiction and the problems that internet addiction caused can get bigger and puts the person in danger and a health problem. Not only teens are addicted to their phones also their parents are. According to a search, 27% of parents themselves can’t put their own devices down (Joyce). This can cause a damaged relationship between the parents and teen.
The third effect is the loss of sleep. 55.3 % of teens admitted texting and using the digital platforms for at least an hour a night before going bed or some of them use their phones during their sleep time (Mazzola). If a student can not sleep, it affects their whole day. For example, they cannot focus on their lessons and it is the reason for the decreasing in the grades.
Finally, if we use the internet to research useful things and are not connected to it all the time, the internet can beneficial. But spending lots of time, stopping the interaction between you and the loved ones or not studying in the hour that you supposed to study can cause negative effects and make your life harder.

I liked your blog, the pictures were nice and is so true the fact of loss of human touch because everyday is harder for any people to have face to face conversation than texting. Also the lack of sleep is so true because many times have also happened to me, so thanks for the advertisement!
ReplyDeleteThe blog is very nice! Your facts are very true and relatable. These things have happened to me and you made me understand how and why i became an addict. I am grateful. Thank you Tuana! Shawn Mendes loves you!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with what you were saying about losing sleep from being on our phones at night, however, I am not sure if it has to do with the blue light giving us energy like many different sources have said or, if we are just excited to get our latest fix of our internet like an addict should.
