Are you addicted to the internet?

Have you ever thought of your internet use? If you’re a teen, you could find this interesting; fifty percent of the teenagers admit feeling addicted to their mobile phones (Joyce). Everyone has heard someone that is constantly saying: ‘Leaving your phone alone is the easiest thing you can do’, but in reality, it’s not. Once you feel or are addicted to something, forgetting about it ends up being really hard. Although this complication exists, there are many ways for helping you fight your addiction to this new technology.

Addiction to phones can be stopped by making boundaries (Joyce) (these are useful not only with phones, but with every other problem or addiction); if you have a child, you can always set limits for him/her. Rules can be strict, such as not letting your child use his/her phone on Mondays and Wednesdays, for example, or they can be just supporting rules to make them get used to it, such as not using the phone during meals, or not texting after 9 p.m (Joyce).

61 percent of teenagers said they felt the usage of phones at night impacted their schoolwork, and 65.7 percent said it impacted sleep, the study said (Mazzola). Having access to your children’s phone could probably make them moderate their usage of the phone, because of the fact of being ‘observed’ by their parents; they would stop doing several things that they made them use the phone for a long time, etc.

A teenager’s mind can change plenty of times throughout their adolescence; parents can try to have speeches with them, explaining their isolation in the world using their phone, or showing the effects of abusing the phone usage. Try to be as close as possible with your sons and daughters, and make them feel comfortable while trying to make their lives better, with simple tips.

  2. I really like this blog! By reading what you wrote in your vlog about internet addiction, I really liked the idea of putting limits to the time that we spend on our phones. I am sure that the conversation between the parents and kids will work to find a solution for internet addiction.
