Did you know that 92% of teenagers go on their phone daily, and 50% are addicted to it? (Lenhart). Internet can be used in many good ways, but if you stay too much time on your phone, it can have some negative consequences. It can affect the amount of time you sleep, your grades in school, and also the interactions you have with people.

The first negative effect of internet addiction is lack of sleep. Almost 55% of teenagers use their phones one hour before
they go to bed, and some use it also for three hours. Many teenagers fall asleep while using their phones, and many of them sleep with their phones near them. According to Bhat, using the phone during nighttime may affect your health and mood. If you use your phone before going to sleep, the next day you will feel more tired and less active. Plus, the light
emitted from the phone can suppress the amount of melatonin, which promotes sleep. (Mazzola)
their quality of work. (Joyce)

The second negative effect is having bad grades in school.  The phone can be a useful device if we are talking about school.
But does it actually have good effects on students? In reality the phone is a great source of distraction. Especially with
students who already have low school skills, the phone can only distract them and lower their skills and grades. (Barnwell)
Some teenagers even watch tv or write texts while they are doing their homework. Many teens said that their “multitasking”
harmed their school work and their grades.

Last but not least, interaction. When the phones didn’t exist, people always used to talk face-to-face. Nowadays, especially
teenagers, have problems to talk face-to-face with their friends and their parents. When teenagers go out, instead of
enjoying their  time and talking their friends, they are all ontheir phones. Also when their parents talk to them, they fake
listen or they use their phone.(Joyce) As I already said, if you use your phone too much, it will influence your mood. In fact,
nowadays, more teens are depressed compared to the teens of 30 years ago.

It seems to me that when the phone didn’t exist, the people felt much better and  society was happier. Of course the phone
has helped people in many good ways. I am not saying that we should “delete” the phone, but we need to be careful of the
use we make of it.
